The Sunny SF-E1405 is a home use elliptical trainer by Sunny Health & Fitness introduced in 2016. It’s a low-capacity elliptical designed for home usage, with a big flywheel and a friction resistance mechanism similar to that seen on spin bikes.
It has a manual friction resistance mechanism and a perimeter-weighted flywheel, similar to spin bikes. A simple performance monitor is also included, which records the most significant workout variables.
It’s a reasonably priced workout machine for low to medium-intensity aerobic training, muscular toning and stamina improvement, and weight reduction.

Construction
The steel frame of the Sunny Health & Fitness SF-E1405 elliptical trainer combines rectangular and cylindrical tubes in its construction.
Despite its enormous flywheel, the completely completed machine is not particularly heavy. It barely weighs 56.76 lbs (25.7 kg), making it easy to transport and build.
A corrosion-resistant paint coating is applied to all steel sections in the cross trainer’s construction. Light gray was chosen because it was the only color available for this model. The flywheel has a chrome finish, and the ABS side covers are the sole exceptions.
Of course, the drivetrain cover and pedal trays are also constructed of tough plastic. The footprint of this Sunny elliptical trainer is rather modest.
It’s just 33″ (84 cm) long and 25.6″ (65 cm) broad when all the pieces are put together. However, for ease of access, it is advised that at least 24″ (61 cm) of space be left all around it.
Unlike most other elliptical trainers, the Sunny SF-E1405 does not include a front upright bar or fixed handlebars.
There are only two lengthy movable arms that connect to the mainframe and pedal bars. These have rubberized grips and are non-adjustable. Pulse sensors are not integrated, and the trainer does not feature a pulse reading function.
Because they can’t be secured, they’ll keep moving as long as you’re cycling. The pedals of the machine are linked to two sturdy steel bars.
It can, however, accommodate persons weighing up to 220 pounds (100 kg). The pedal trays are large enough to fit all sizes of sporting shoes. They contain inner protectors and a textured surface for increased foot stability and placement.
However, unlike the more costly ones, they lack articulation and added padding. They aren’t even adjustable.
Last but not least, the machine’s rear base bar features two polygonal caps that may swivel and function as adjustable stabilizers.
The front foundation bars also include two tiny wheels for simple movement.
Step-up Height
The Sunny Health & Fitness SF-E1405 is a rear-drive elliptical trainer, which means the crankset is in the back of the machine.
Its elliptical course is slightly tilted forward as a result of this. Consequently, the ride resembled a soft path downhill. Consequently, the glutes and thighs get a little more effort.
The Sunny SF-E1405 features a short stride length. It is 12″ in length (30.4 cm). This being stated, it is not a machine for those who are exceptionally tall. Taller users may not benefit from a full range of motion. Therefore, it is advised for individuals up to 6’0″ (183 cm).
They should, however, be allowed to utilize the machine as long as they do not surpass the 220 pounds (100 kg) weight restriction.
The angle of the elliptical path cannot be adjusted since the trainer lacks an inclination mechanism.
The stride length is non-adjustable as well. The height of the pedal step-up is approximately 7″ (18 cm). The pedals, however, are approximately 14″ (35 cm) above the floor level at their tallest position.
Consequently, it’s best to operate the machine in a room with a ceiling at least 17″-18″ (43-46 cm) higher than the taller user’s height.
Resistance Level
Like other spin bikes, the Sunny Health & Fitness SF-E1405 has a friction resistance mechanism with manual operation.
This means it doesn’t require an external power source, but it also means it can’t adjust the resistance automatically and doesn’t have pre-set training plans.
The resistance system comprises a turn knob and a felt brake pad connected above the flywheel.
The brake pad imparts greater friction to the flywheel as the knob is turned clockwise, increasing the pedaling effort.
The resistance system of the machine is stepless. The resistance knob has no preset tension settings. Tighten it until the required pedaling effort is achieved. It can be tightened up to the point where you can hardly pedal as a general rule.
The flywheel on this Sunny Health & Fitness elliptical trainer is huge.
It is perimeter-weighted for increased inertia and weighs 16 lbs (7.2 kg). This specific flywheel design also contributes to the smoothness of the ride by increasing motion stability.
The flywheel rotates in both directions. To put it another way, you can cycle backward if you like. However, it is crucial to note that cycling in reverse will provide the same resistance as pedaling forward, depending on how tight the brake pad is.
Unlike a road cycle, this machine does not allow for coasting. As long as the flywheel rotates, the pedals will continue to move. A chain is used in the machine’s drivetrain.
It’s essentially a typical bicycle chain. This sort of driving system has several benefits. To begin with, it may last a lifetime if properly cared for. Second, if it rusts or fails in any way, you can very much get a replacement for it at any bike store.
It does, however, require maintenance regularly, just like any other chain drivetrain.
Exercise Meter
A simple exercise meter is included with the Sunny Health & Fitness SF-E1405 elliptical trainer.
It has a four-metric LCD (no LED lighting) that tracks your workout. Time, speed, distance, and calories burned are the variables.
Batteries power the machine. It runs on two AAA batteries. It also includes a sleep mode that kicks in after four minutes of inactivity.
The item does not contain a pulse reading capability, as previously stated. It doesn’t have sensors on the handlebars, and it can’t interface with wireless HR transmitters.
Consequently, you’ll need to utilize a separate gadget to measure your pulse during your workout. It does not feature training routines or goal-setting capabilities because it is a simple performance monitor.
It simply includes one button that allows you to choose from any metrics listed above to display on the screen.
It also features a Scan Mode, which alternates the four exercise metrics for a few seconds each selected.
There’s also a Reset button on the button. You may wipe all the values to zero by pressing and holding them for a few seconds.
Assembly
The main body is pre-assembled, including the flywheel, driving system, and resistance system.
However, the remainder of the pieces must be assembled by the user. The two base bars, the pedal bars & moving arms, the pedal trays, and the exercise meter must all be attached.
It shouldn’t take more than an hour to do this task. The handbook has extremely clear assembly instructions and all of the essential equipment for the job.
First and foremost, it is advised that the machine be kept clean.
The chain is pre-lubricated, although it may require further lubrication over time.
If the brake pad produces a loud noise as it comes into contact with the flywheel, it may need to be lubricated (silicone lubricant is recommended for this).
Aside from that, you should check for loose bolts and parts regularly.
